Events Date: 14 JUN-2017

Every year on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor  Day (WBDD). The day is celebrated every year on the day of birthday Anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on   14 June 1868. The event, established in 2004, serves to raise awareness for voluntary blood donation to meet the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. The theme for World Blood Donor Day in 2017 focus on blood donation in emergency situations. The first response when an emergency happens is "What Can You Do?" and the answer is "Give Blood. Give Now. Give Often" which is taken by World health Organization.

Like every year, Asian Association of Transfusion Medicine (AATM) Bangladesh Chapter along with Department of Transfusion Medicine of BSMMU has organized different types of programs at BSMMU premises to celebrate the day. The day was started with a short rally, and then a discussion meeting was also arranged at the 8th floor of cabin block building at BSMMU.
